Yep - we're still here, and STILL planning to set up school at home! I've been spending my summer trying to get prepared. Ryan is really excited and asks just about every day when we can "do some homeschool."
Since it's our first year, we'll be testing a lot of things. Hopefully, a lot of it will be successful too! (I keep thinking, it's only kindergarten, so if I completely screw it up, there's hope for First grade!)
After combing through "What your Kindergartner Needs to Know", and other books and websites, here are my plans so far and in no particular order...
Math
Horizon's Math Kindergarten Book 1
Hooked on Math (ages 6-7)
Math games and other fun things I've found online
Spelling
Hooked on Spelling (ages 5-8)
Handwriting
Zaner-Bloser Handwriting
Journal/Scrapbook
Literature
Classic Poems to Memorize
Stories from What your Kindergartner Needs to Know
Lots of other ideas I've found online too!
Science
How Science Works - we'll start here, but we have many more books to branch into when we're looking for more fun experiments and things to try.
History
This is kind of tricky, I think we are going to explore ancient world history - while adding in fun things like dinosaurs. We'll go with the flow.
Geography
Expedition Earth - this will work nicely with World History, I think.
We might also do some fun things with US States if we have the chance.
Art
World's Greatest Artists
Music
Piano Lessons - We hope!
Wish us luck! :)
